Hello SUP Surf Community,
Summertime is here on Oahu and we are stacked with SUP events at the end of the month. The South Shore is picking up energy just in time for the third event of the HSP Steinlager Shaka Longboard Series to be held at Queens Beach. At the same time the North Shore is flat and smooth...perfect for training for the upcoming paddleboard race from Sunset Beach to Waimea Bay. If you've been thinking about entering a race or a contest, this is the perfect time to do both!.....
June 30th is almost here and recent southern swells are giving us a peek at the surf we'll seen at the HSP Pro-Am event at Queens Beach. We are stoked for the show that the SUP surfers are going to put on this time. With each event we are seeing more power and technique than ever before. If you want to see how top surfers are ripping on stand up boards, be there, or better yet, enter the event. Each contest has several surfers who are entering events for the first time. After all, it's all about having fun and sufing with Aloha. You'll find a link to more information and entry forms on the Events Calendar at www.SUPsurfMag.com.
This year will be the 28th year of the Hui O He'e Nalu Independence Day Paddleboard Race on the 4th of July. We're looking forward to another year of blue skies and good vibes at the event. Divisions include Stand Up Paddle, Paddleboard Men and Women, Surfboard Men and Women, Unlimited Over 12', Menehune, Tandem, and the new All Wood Board Division. You should definitely make plans to check it out this year. Just to see the boards and equipment that the athletes use is well worth the trip, especially with the All Wood Board Division. Registration begins at 9:30am and the race begins promptly at 11:00am. Bring a lunch and have a relaxing afternoon with paddleboard races on the North Shore. Last year's stand up paddle division winner was Guy Pere who finished the 3.5 mile course in 29 minutes and 52 seconds. Second was Dave Parmenter who finished in 32 minutes and 16 seconds, and third was Doug Lock in 32 minutes and 38 seconds. For more information visit the Events Calendar at www.SUPsurfMag.com.
Have fun training and we'll see you there, in the water, and on the beach!
