It's here once again, and it's never too late to get in. The 30th Annual Hui O He'e Nalu Independence Day Paddleboard Race from Sunset Beach to Waimea Bay begins on July 4th at 11:00 am. With 21 divisions, the whole family can come out and enjoy the day. Check in and late registration is from 9:30 - 10:30am. Be sure to get there with enough time to check in and prep for the race. The race starts promptly at 11:00 and the cut off time is an hour and a half after start. There's no late fee for day-of registration but just no guarantees for receiving a race shirt. Entry is $40 for tandem, and $30 for everyone else except military. This year, those with military IDs get their entry fee waived. Contest organizers recommend wearing a leash, bright clothing, a hat and PFD. There's a pre-race briefing at 10:45 and each paddlers will be given a time chip to record race times. Bring a picnic for a fun day of races and beach. Divisions include: Paddleboard Men Stock 12', Paddleboard Women Stock 12', Surfboard Men 12' and under, Surfboard Women 12' and under, Unlimited (over 12' mixed coed), Menehune (13 and under any equipment), Stand Up Paddle Open Men, Stand Up Paddle Open Women, Traditional All Wood Board Open, Tandem (parent/child 12' max), and Active Duty Military Open.
