THE SUNSET SURF CLASSIC 14th & 15th JUNE 2008 HELD AT GWITHIAN BEACH IN CORNWALL

Marie Buchannon: 1st Distance & Surf
The British Stand Up Paddle Association (BSUPA) held the 2nd round of the British Stand Up Paddle series at Gwithian beach Cornwall over the 14th and 15th June.  Around 40 competitors traveled from around the UK to compete in the Cornish waters.  The event was sponsored by Sunset Surf Nautilus, Starboard, Onfire, C-Skins, Liquid Vision, Prosport Sunscreen, Skinners Brewery, Surf Drops and Jolly’s drinks.

The event was split into two sections - surf and distance.

The event started on Saturday morning with small surf and cross shore winds and the first heats proceeded throughout the morning.  It was clear that despite the poor surf conditions all the SUP riders were able to catch and ride waves.  The first heat to compete was the Juniors category, with an age spread from 6 years (Blue Ewer) up to 16 (Bobbie Cooper) – these guys did really well with Connor Griffiths winning the round.

By: Stand Up Paddle Surfing Magazine
Monday, 16 June 2008

If you've ever daydreamed about stand up paddle surfing to work, the store, around campus, or on the boardwalk, the Kahuna Big Stick is what you've been waiting for. Land-stand-up-paddling has been made a reality by the boys at Kahuna Creations. Stand Up Paddle Surfing Magazine’s editor met up with ImageKC rider and surfing legend Buttons Kaluhiokalani and Kahuna Creations founder Steve McBride at Sunset Beach on the North Shore of Oahu to get the real deal on the Kahuna Big Stick and Kahuna Creations skateboards, surfboards, and snowboards. “I have to admit," says Nate, "I had my doubts about the Big Stick. I wondered if it would feel awkward. That idea was squashed when Steve handed me a Big Stick and Buttons showed me how to use it. It's a sweet piece of equipment. There are a lot of good vibes surrounding the company. Everyone who came to the demo on that day was greeted at the KC tent with smiles, stickers, catalogues, posters autographed by Buttons, as well as drinks and energy bars from KC sponsor Pit Bull."

Watch how the water is moving. If you time it just right, you can ride the rip current straight out the lineup.
